A San Diego veterinarian who runs a nonprofit that cares for the pets of homeless people — work that earned him recognition as CNN’s 2023 Hero of the Year this month — received a $90,000 grant from the San Diego Foundation!

The award money was given to Dr. Kwane Stewart to further the efforts of Project Street Vet. Since 2015, Stewart has walked the streets in San Diego County on his own time, treating pets, paying for their medicine and hospital stays. In 2020, he founded Project Street Vet, bringing on volunteer veterinarians around the country.

Congratulations Dr. Stewart on your amazing work in furthering animal welfare for low-income families and people experiencing homelessness!
