Building Sustainable Spay/Neuter Programs Through Community Partnerships
By Kendall Jang, Staff Writer
As animal shelters face capacity challenges, rising intake, and limited resources, preventing unplanned litters is an important part of reducing pressure on shelters and keeping pets with their families.
In this free webinar from United Spay Alliance and Community Cats Central, Pet Friendly Services of Indiana shared lessons from nearly 50 years of experience building and managing a statewide spay/neuter assistance program.
The webinar explored practical strategies communities can use to make affordable spay/neuter services more accessible and sustainable, from identifying reliable funding sources and recruiting veterinary partners to developing sliding-scale programs, partnering with mobile clinics, and using automation to manage services efficiently.
Here in Ohio, Ohio Animal Advocates serves as the Ohio state leader for United Spay Alliance’s nationwide spay/neuter referral directory, helping connect pet owners with affordable spay/neuter resources in their communities.
Expanding access to these services is an important part of OAA’s advocacy. By investing in prevention and connecting families with resources, communities can prevent unwanted litters, reduce shelter intake, and help more pets remain in their homes.
Successful programs like Indiana’s provide valuable models for strengthening spay/neuter access in Ohio and across the country.
