Building Skills, Saving Lives: Vet Students Serve Ohio’s Pets

The Ohio Pet Fund provided Rascal Charities with an educational grant to offer teaching opportunities to veterinary students to improve their skills, confidence and experience while helping the community and animals. We are mentoring the veterinarians of tomorrow while helping the animals of today.

Seven veterinary students, from 1st to 4th year of vet school, sterilized and provided wellness and medical care to about 30 cats from Colony Cats as part of this event thank to the educational grant from the Ohio Pet Fund.

In addition, Dr. G, an Ohio Animal Advocates board member, and Dr. Middleton offered sterilization and preventive care, plus additional medical care as needed, to about 20 dogs and 60 cats from Save Ohio Pets and Hospets’ clients.

The Ohio Pet Fund gave us a grant for two surgery table/anesthesia machine set ups to utilize for the wet labs, and funding per clinic to cover cost of the student training for the day.

The Dublin Pet Fair paid for the surgery, preventive care and medical care for owned animals belonging to clients of Save Ohio Pets, an organization that helps individuals experiencing financial and/or housing insecurity. The services included spay/neuter, vaccines, heartworm testing and prevention. Dogs and cats found to have injuries or illnesses were treated under the Pet Fair.
