New Volunteer Handbook Highlights Opportunities to Make a Difference for Animals Across Ohio

At Ohio Animal Advocates, we believe meaningful change happens when passionate people come together with a shared purpose. That's why we're excited to introduce our new Volunteer Handbook, designed to help prospective volunteers learn about our mission, explore available opportunities, and discover how they can make a lasting impact for animals across Ohio.

Unlike shelters and rescues that provide direct animal care, Ohio Animal Advocates focuses on advancing animal protection through advocacy, legislation, education, and public resources. Our volunteers play an essential role in helping us create statewide, systemic change that benefits animals, communities, and future generations.

Why Volunteers Matter

Volunteers are the backbone of our work. Whether you're helping connect Ohioans with life-saving resources or advocating for stronger animal protection laws, your time and talents help create real change. Our volunteers help:

  • Connect people with critical animal welfare resources

  • Support animal-friendly policies in communities across Ohio

  • Ensure individuals know where to turn when animals need help

  • Strengthen statewide advocacy efforts that improve the lives of animals

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps move our mission forward.

Grassroots Advocacy Volunteers

If you're passionate about public policy and community engagement, our Grassroots Advocacy team may be the perfect fit. Volunteers work alongside Ohio Animal Advocates to:

  • Respond to legislative action alerts

  • Meet with state and local policymakers

  • Testify on important animal welfare issues

  • Recruit new advocates in their communities

  • Share local animal welfare stories

  • Represent OAA at community events (optional)

Volunteers receive advocacy training, mentorship, opportunities to connect with fellow advocates, and the chance to help shape animal welfare policy across Ohio.

Statewide Directory Volunteers

Our Statewide Directory Volunteers help maintain some of Ohio Animal Advocates' most valuable public resources. These volunteers research, verify, and update directories including:

  • Spay/neuter services

  • Pet food pantries

  • Animal cruelty reporting resources

  • Safe Haven programs

By ensuring these directories remain accurate and up to date, volunteers help Ohioans quickly find assistance when they need it most. The role also provides valuable experience in research, data management, and public resource development while supporting a statewide mission.

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking volunteers who are:

  • Passionate about animal welfare

  • Strong communicators

  • Detail-oriented and comfortable with research

  • Interested in advocacy, community engagement, or resource building

  • Ohio residents or individuals with strong connections to Ohio communities

Whether you're an experienced advocate or simply looking for a meaningful way to give back, there's a place for you on our volunteer team.
