Fireworks & the Fourth: What You Need to Know to Keep Pets Safe
The Fourth of July is a time of celebration and relaxation. Many people across the United States commemorate this holiday with dazzling fireworks displays and family cookouts. However, for our furry friends, this holiday is overshadowed by frightening lights and loud noises. Here are our best tips for comforting pets during the Fourth of July:
Keep pets indoors. Due to the chaotic nature of this holiday, you never know when someone could light a firework. Prevent dogs from getting spooked by loud noises and running off by keeping them safely inside.
Check your petβs tags! Double-check that the information on ID tags and microchips is up to date, just in case a beloved pet manages to escape during the festivities. Whether you've recently moved or acquired a new phone number, it's always a good idea to keep your pet tags as accurate as possible.
Keep pets away from fires. Between bonfires or grillouts, an open fire is always a danger to our furry pets. If pets are outside, please keep a close eye on them to ensure their safety.
Comfort your nervous pets. Some pets are more sensitive to loud noises than others. Regardless, being with them during this stressful time can help alleviate their stress.
Remove all firework debris from your yard. Even if you did not partake in fireworks, debris can still manage to find its way to other peopleβs lawns. Conduct a sweep before letting pets outside the next morning.
From all of us at Ohio Animal Advocates, we wish you and your pets a happy Fourth of July!
