Why is this important?
Access to pet-inclusive housing is a critical but often overlooked issue for people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Many shelters and temporary housing programs still prohibit animals, forcing families to make an impossible choice between staying with their pets or accessing services. As a result, people and their beloved companions may remain on the streets together rather than be separated. Expanding pet-inclusive housing helps keep families together, improves access to services, and supports both human and animal welfare.
Get involved right away
Submit an action alert to Support Unhoused People and Pets, which would establish a grant program for homeless shelters to access the funds they need to support clients with pets.
